Physical Description
Ostrea edulis, also know as the “european flat oyster”. They still live today and can vary in size and colour. Reaching up to 12 cm in lenght. They are harvested as a food source since before roman times and are found near the coast in shallow waters, where they attach themselves to the rocks.
Age and Distribution
This species is extant and can be found in European waters ranging from the North East Atlantic till North Africa. The fossilized specimens on offer are at least 120000 years old but this species goes back to the Miocene.
